Recently, the spectacular Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was back on display after six years. The curtain fell on the once wildly popular runway show in 2019, but the Angels are back – in better shape than ever! What does it really slide to have such a divine body?
Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
In 2019, the curtain fell on the once wildly popular Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. At the time, the lingerie brand’s parent company announced that it was discontinuing the catwalk show altogether. The event had been organized and televised annually since 1995. Once the ultimate dream for models was to become one of the Angels showing Victoria’s Secret lingerie. At its peak at the turn of the century, some 12 million Americans watched the catwalk show; in the last year, only a little over 3 million did.
Criticism
The beauty ideal that Victoria’s Secret presented to viewers was said to be out of date and the show an sich misogynistic. In 2018, controversy arose when the company’s marketing boss announced that the show had no room for transgender and plus size models. Finally, in 2019, the curtain fell on the once wildly popular Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. But not for good, as recently world-famous models and also models from Holland – a tad more inclusive – returned to the runway.
Doutzen was not the only one to make a big comeback, Tyra Banks and top model Adriana Lima were also back on the scene. Even though Adriana Lima retired six years ago! Familiar faces like Gigi Hadid, Candice Swanepoel, Imaan Hammam, Taylor Hill, Ashley Graham and Behati Prinsloo could also be admired on stage.
